Royal Wedding Tea

Breakfast fit for Royalty!

I waited and waited for my invitation to the Royal Wedding, and well the British royals made a mistake. They left me off the invite list. So again, as I did when Princess Diana married that two timing Prince Charles I will watch it again in my family room at home.

Instead of ringside in Westminster Abbey, I’ve decided to host a breakfast and watch the wedding of the young prince and princess-to-be on the TV with my other Royal watching friends.

More than 750 million watched Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles' 1981 wedding in the early morning on TV, and despite the very early hour, royal watchers predicted even more eyeballs were on the wedding of the royal golden boy who will one day be king of England, and his future queen.
The Prince William and Kate Middleton ceremony was broadcast live, starting at 2 am, but I taped the festivities on my DVR so we could start our breakfast at 8:00am. I even took Friday off so I wouldn’t miss the Will and Kate kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Each guest brought their English favorites, scones, lemon curd, mini muffins, mini quiches, cookies and more.  The food, of course, was fit for a future king and queen!

Speaking of guests, we did forgo dress in wedding attire, and because of the early hour, we dressed casually, though a few did look smashing in their hats.

We made up royal names by combining the name of your first pet, name of the street you lived on and your last name.  I was Lady Misty Ashley Tannahill – what fun!  My daughter, Makay was Lady Honey Colorado Sanders.  Not only were my wonderful friends in attendance, but also my beautiful daughter, Makay and her two cute kids!

Overall, it may not have been as great as seeing the wedding in person, but we all still managed to have a splendid time!

DIY Italian Mesh Jewlrey!

Something new to make out of something you already have.

For my next "make it" project I am planning on embellishing some large pendants I have collected over the years.  I found this great web site Specialtybeads.com --a website dedicated to bringing you beautiful and interesting beads and jewelry making supplies so that you can create incredible jewelry! The website was developed by Gary and Jannell Botto.

I especially love the Italian Mesh Ribbon and Venetian Beads from Murano, Italy. They also carry incredible lampwork beads and pendants, specialty findings, beautiful ribbons, and amazing beading kits. The things I have bought come carefully packaged and wrapped with a special glass bead, a bonus if you will, that is always a surprise.

It's like every bead has been individually selected because it is beautiful and extraordinary! They carry exceptional beads, pendants, and findings at every price range and the highest quality merchandise at competitive prices. They also offer free shipping with no minimum purchase in the USA.

Odd Pieces of China Laying Around?

DIY Cake/Candy Stand

While going through my odd china pieces to decorate a table, I noticed I had a few pieces that went well together.  I store the pieces in a beautiful old lingerie cabinet that came out of the old Harts Department Store in downtown San Jose circa 1900's.  These pieces have come from garage sales and thrift stores.  Treasures I love and use for tea's and special occasions.  I also have a wonderful collection of cut glass candle sticks I use at Christmas on my table.  I decided to make small cake/candy stands out of the china and candle sticks.

Here is how I did it:

After deciding on the three pieces I wanted to use for the cake/candy plates I matched them up with a few of the odd crystal candlestick holders I have collected over the years.  I will use these for the base.

I washed all pieces thoroughly and then marked where the center of the plates were so I could make sure the stands would be placed correctly.  I then added a generous amount of E-6000 glue to the top rim of the glass candlestick holder.  This glue is the best glue for glass, metal, ceramics and more.  I bought it at Joann's with my 40% off coupon.

I then glued the other two stands, turning them upside down to dry.  I placed a book on top of each upside down stand to make sure there was pressure.  I let them dry overnight (I made this project about 10:00 at night.  I get so excited when creating I really don't care about the time).

And Voila!  Your own unique cake/candy stands made by re-purposing some china and candle sticks you can find at any thrift store, flea market or garage sale.  I made mine to each be a separate stand, that way I can use them in different ways.  Be careful not to have the base be too tall for the plate you choose.

Here is another glue I use called GOOP.  I like this one too!

Supplies:
Candlestick holder
Plate, bowl, whatever you can think of
Clear epoxy craft glue E-6000 or GOOP!

Now send me one that you have made...  I am going through some other china things to come up with some new ideas this weekend.  Enjoy creating something new out of something old!

Squeeze In: Historic Downtown Truckee, CA

SQUEEZE IN
Last week I had opportunity to stop in downtown Truckee and enjoy a simple meal.  I thought I'd share with you one of my favorite places to get a hamburger.

Also known for the Best Omelets on the Planet, you know automatically when you reach your destination that the place is great when you see tons of people milling about outside waiting their turn to be seated.

Squeeze is located in a row of fabulous shopping spots in the lovely downtown Truckee, near the California Welcome Center (A great place to get visitor information, be sure and stop in).

The restaurant isn't called the Squeeze for nothing, when you walk in the restaurant, you literally squeeze your way around to get to your table, another reason why the wait is a little longer, they only have so much room in their narrow location. But, again, the atmosphere was booming and the wait was going to be worth it, I know it!

The decor is fun, bicycles hanging from the ceiling, and the walls were full of fun and unique graffiti by means of people actually signing the walls (permanent markers are given to you as you're seated)!

So check out the video below to see what others say about it!
