Remember - Memorial Day ideas

Happy Memorial Day

Are you taking a relaxing break from work today? I love a long weekend. Richard BBQ'd steaks last night an we had a wonderful dinner. Today I plan on working in the yard. I will take a moment to reflect though, and thank the soldiers who have died.

You see I don't want to forget what Memorial Day is really about. It was originally created to commemorate fallen U.S. soldiers. The sacrifices they made for our great country should never be forgotten.

To honor our fallen soldiers, I want to share some Memorial Day Websites. You can learn about the history of Memorial Day. And find out more about the wars where American soldiers died.

You’ll also find information about traditional Memorial Day observances. That includes the country-wide moment of silence.

Remembrance is a small price to pay for the freedom we enjoy.

Some web site www.kimkomando.com shared on her Memorial Weekend Blog

Decoration Day - http://www.history.com/topics/memorial-day-history
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. Find other interesting historical facts about the holiday, wars, conflicts, videos, historic photos and more.

A moment of remembrance - http://www.remember.gov/
3:00 PM is the national moment of remembrance. The entire nation will be unified in remembering our fallen veterans. There are various ways to participate. This site will help you choose a way to remember.

Celebrate like the old days - http://www.usmemorialday.org/observe.htm
It's okay to have a cookout with family and friends, but don't forget about why we have this special day. This site suggests some meaningful ways to honor those who died.

I picked these roses from my yard this morning. I think I will take them to the Newcastle Cemitary and place them on the grave of a fallen soldior...

Be safe, happy Memorial Day!

How to choose the best seat on an Airplane?

How can I choose the best seat? http://www.cheapfareguru.com/travel-tips_How-to-pick-the-Best-Seats_11_11_44.html

Identify the type of aircraft being used on the flight. Look over the seating chart to determine your preference. Some prefer aisle, some window, but you must. decide which is more comfortable and convenient for you.

Make your requests early, at the time of booking.

Consider joining the airline’s frequent flier mileage program. Often better seats are held out for the airline’s VIP or mileage club members.

Usually, seats on or near the wings will provide a smoother ride.

Remember, bulkhead seats provide more legroom, but often lack overhead compartment space and usually have no under seat storage in front of them.

Often airlines put parents with small children and babies in the bulkhead seats to provide extra room. If you're travelling with have kids, this may be a desirable place for you. Check in advance to determine whether baby seats, bassinets, diaper bags etc. count against your allowable carry-on bags. Keep in mind that small children, will not be seated in an emergency exit row.

To avoid being seated next to babies or small children, ask for the emergency exit row. These rows have more legroom and will have an overhead compartment. In some cases, the seats may not recline. Remember, the airline will ask for and expect your help in opening the emergency exits if an accident or emergency occurs. Many airlines will not pre-assign the exit seats. You can wait until you reach the check-in counter and make your request then.

Be aware that the seats immediately in front of the exit row will not recline. They have standard legroom, but are better left for someone else who doesn't mind sitting upright through the entire flight !

If it is important for you to deplane as quickly as possible on arrival, request a seat in the first 6 or 8 rows. Those will be the first off the plane.

New favorite spot for contemporary design

While passing through Truckee yesterday I found a NEW store I loved called Mo Jo & Zoe's It's right on the Main street of Old Town just down from the California Welcome Center.

I loved the clothing and Joanne (proprietor) was so friendly and informative. She was making jewelry behind the counter and told me the story of the shop. It is owned by her daughter and family and they enjoy making the fun and simple (did I say reasonably priced too) jewelery. I also coveted a cute seersucker jacket and several light weight knit tops. I will be back soon for some more shopping

I bought some cute fish dangle earrings while I was there for just $20.00. They are wonderful and very detailed. I will be waring them today!

What are some of your favorite stores???

Fashion club to host 'Project Runway' alum

Had a great evening in Stockton meeting Jay Sario from the television show "Project Runway" He is absolutely a delightful guy and has some great fashion scene
www.jaynicolassario.com

My mom's Haute Couture Société, a club dedicated to fashion design and fine needle arts, was hosting the former "Project Runway" contestant at an their monthly evening event.  I loved when I walked in and there were home made cookies and refreshments, and a very classy woman was GIVING AWAY patterns she had doubles of, so I picked out a few for my daughter Makay (who loves to sew when she has time)  I enjoyed meeting many of the women whom I have seen model in their annual fashion show (see previous blogs)

I loved his designs and feel they are very wearable.

He was an excellent speaker and very enthusiastic about design.  31-year-old San Francisco resident, he told where he gets his inspiration and his favorite designer is Michael Kors

Jay Sario, who appeared on the seventh season of the cable television show, will discussed his experience on "Project Runway" and display his spring 2011 fashion collection.

.

The event was held at Grace Methodist Church, 1625 N. Lincoln St. in downtown Stockton

I found a NEW favorite place in Visalia when I was there yesterday. It's called
"The Lunch Box"

112 N. Court St Visalia Ca. 93292 (559) 635-8624

A great place to grab a yummy lunch in downtown Visalia. I found Main Street to have excellent shopping and a few fun antique stores. I even found a Discovery Thrift Shop at which I bought a cute party dress for Kiera, a white elegant tea pot and a cashmere sweater I plan to cut up for my scarf project. All in all it was a wonderful few hours to explore a "Classic California" downtown.

Happy Mothers Day

Mothers Day
A Mother loves right from the start.
She holds her baby close to her heart.
The bond that grows will never falter.
Her love is so strong it will never alter.
A Mother gives never ending Love.
She never feels that she has given enough.
For you she will always do her best.
Constantly working, there's no time to rest.
A Mother is there when things go wrong.
A hug and a kiss to help us along.
Always there when we need her near.
Gently wipes our eyes when we shed a tear.
So on this day shower your Mother with Love.
Gifts and presents are nice but that is not enough.
Give your Mother a day to have some peace of mind.
Be gentle, be good, be helpful, be kind.
Happy Mothers Day.

Feel like a marshmallow on the Road?

Why not enjoy some exercise with a Twist?

Don’t lose your exercise momentum. Most hotels have some kind of workout space, weight room, walking trail or pool, and if not, then make your own gym. Why not take a few flights of stairs? (Just make sure you don't get locked in a stairwell!) or take a walk around the neighborhood. I use the room’s large bath towel instead of my mat for daily stretching. On TV in your room many times there is an exercise channel or tune into the music channel and dance. Another great tip I learned was to take a jump rope. (Two five minute sessions makes it great exercise and easy to pack.)

When traveling one tends to burn more calories naturally, but we also eat more and more often. You’ll probably be burning lots of calories especially if you walk to the convention center, nearby store or restaurant. I try not to break my routine too much; if you do, it will be harder to get back into it once you're home again.
If you’re not happy with the hotels offerings for exercise, ask your hotel concierge for local gym referrals; sometimes you can get a free guest pass.

So what are your favorite Travel exercises?

Make Change With Your Muse

I love to have my camera, phone, pen, and business cards when I go to an evening event. My problem is at times I am tempted to put them down. I found a cute wristlet wallet coin purse that I take to these events. The leather floral one is the perfect conversation piece too. Small enough to not get in the way when I'm snapping a shot, yet large enough for a lip gloss too.

So go ahead, relax --attract prosperity and change in your life. Think of it as a simple, but inspiring, way to collect your prized "can't live without" items and celebrate your evening in style.
